The Oyster Ode

An ode should be sung

As oysters touch tongue.

What food!

Silent salt marsh food.

Once at the feet of Lady Liberty food

Poisoned there by Standard oil food,

Yet in a dish named for the Rockefeller’s food.

Unable to flee food.

Pounded by pollution food

Now poisoned by BP food.

Devastated by parasite food

Always overfished food

Forced to be farmed food

Gem making jewel of a food

Once for the poor food

Now for the rich food

Shipped to gourmets by air food.

Such glorious food

Magic mollusk food

Star starfish food

Ideal Native American food

Beloved love food

Eat it raw food

Powerful and potent food

Served in the nude food

Outstanding when stewed food

Forbidden to Jew food

Good with a brew food

No need to chew food

Helps men to do it food

Easy to digest food

Protein providing food

Zinging in zinc food

Overflowing with Omega 3 food

High in vitamin A, B, C, E, and K food

Hard for some to look at food

Hangover helping food

Alive when swallowed food

Dead when digested food

Hard for some to take food

Reminds some of something else food.

Shucked of their shells and served at a bar food;

Thought best when served in a month with an R food.

Highest of High Foods

Finest of Fine Foods.

An ode to be sung

As oysters touch tongue.

A prayer should be said

For all the Gulf’s Dead.
